Gulf Fritillaries are native to the area along the Gulf Coast. They have a beautiful orange hue with blank and silver markings on their hind-wings.

Their host-plant is the passionfruit vine. Be careful because it spreads prolifically but I’m not complaining because the fritillaries are prolific in our area and it lends itself to having a beautiful butterfly garden! The flowers are also loved by other pollinators!

Sine the passion vine spreads amongst our garden, we have plenty of it to use both in nature and in our enclosures.

Their chrysalis looks like a piece of bark or a dried leave.

What I love most about the fritillaries are that their markings look like an eye to ward off predators but also very beautiful!
